1. What model of coaching does Joannie use?
Joannie primarily uses the Co-Active Coaching model, which focuses on three fundamental
principles that are essential for a meaningful life: fulfillment, balance,
and process.
"In
a Co-Active Coaching relationship, the agenda comes from the
client, not the coach...The relationship
is entirely focused on getting the results clients want...The
coach's job is to make sure the agenda doesn't get lost." - Coaches
Training Institute
2. What happens in a coaching session?
The coaching session is based on the agenda you bring to each session and goals
you set at the onset of the coaching relationship. Joannie will engage you in
the Co-Active Coaching process where she will use her training and intuition
to guide you in a conversation that gives you clarity and insight into your life
and goals. No coaching relationship is the same. You and Joannie will develop
unique processes that will give you the confidence to move forward in meeting
your goals. Throughout each session, Joannie will work with you to develop mini
steps you can take over the course of the next week to meet your larger goals.
The sense of accountability and structure will give you the strength you need
to make it over the hurdles. If you would like to move in a different direction
in the coaching process, your have a responsibility to communicate this with
Joannie so she can direct the process to meet your needs.
3. How is coaching different from therapy or counseling?
The coach does not provide advice or analysis like a therapist or counselor.
There is no "fixing" because you are naturally creative, resourceful and
whole. The coach listens intuitively and uses proven tools to help you realize
what
you truly want or want more of in your life.
4. Can't I get the same benefit from talking to friends and family?
Friends and family can be a great resource. As in any good relationship, however,
there is a give and take; time and energy is shared. Coaching is focused solely
on you. You are the center of attention and your agenda is the main purpose for
the relationship. In addition, the coach is professionally trained to listen
and guide you, not give opinions and advice.
5. What happens in between the coaching sessions?
The learning and action happen between the coaching sessions. Between each scheduled
session, you will take actions that were agreed upon during the previous coaching
session. The sense of satisfaction you will have by taking concrete steps will
encourage you and motivate you to push ahead. Also, you may be given a question
from a session to ponder to help deepen the learning around a situation that
you are facing. If you have questions, concerns, successes or disappointments
during the week, you can e-mail or do a quick check in call to Joannie to celebrate
or get support.
6. What if I have to reschedule a session?
Please do your best to notify Joannie at least 24 hours in advance if you have
to reschedule and she will do the same. Joannie understands that unexpected circumstances
arise and she will work with you to make new plans. Usually the session will
be rescheduled during the same week.
7. What happens when I am ready to stop?
After making an initial commitment to yourself to experience coaching for
three months, the arrangement is month-to-month and you can stop at any time.
You
will specify in your contract with Joannie the amount of notice you each
will give
if the coaching relationship is going to end. This gives you both a chance
to have a "completion" session, which helps bring closure to the process
and sets you up for success on your post-coaching journey.
8. Will Coaching take a lot of my time?
Committing to make significant changes in your life takes time. There is
meaning in the saying that you get out of it what you put into it. Joannie's encouragement
and positive reinforcement will help keep you motivated. This is one of the major
benefits of coaching. It's easy to be enthusiastic about a plan in the beginning.
Joannie will help you stay committed through the entire process.
9. How do I pay?
You typically pay by check in advance for your sessions each month. Other forms
of payment can be discussed if need be.
